Have we got the perfect storm forming for New Zealand property investors? In my view, it’s not just coming, it’s already here. And the best part? The opportunities are only getting better.

There are several factors right now creating an exciting window for anyone wanting to get involved in property investment. Think of it like a recipe: when you combine the right ingredients, you get a unique and highly rewarding end result. In this case, the five key ingredients are:
Property listings increasing: New Zealand investment property listings are at their highest in a decade, with nearly 9,000 new listings in 2025 alone, 21% higher than last year.
Interest rates dropping: Gradually declining interest rates make it easier and more profitable for investors seeking strong returns on their property investments.
More sellers than buyers: With so many listings, there are now far more sellers than active buyers, creating a classic buyer’s market in the New Zealand property scene.
Increasingly motivated vendors: The high number of properties on the market means many sellers are eager to sell quickly, giving investors negotiating power.
Property prices dropping: Property prices across New Zealand are falling. At the time of writing, the average house price is $763,000, down 2.6% from last year and 17% lower than three years ago. Auckland and Wellington have seen even steeper drops of 20% and 27%, respectively.
When you combine all these factors, you get a perfect storm for astute kiwi property investors. This scenario only comes around every 6–7 years during the property market’s ‘slump phase’- exactly the phase where smart property investors, guided by property mentoring and property coaching, can make the most of the opportunity.
